Eid 2025: A Celebration of Tradition, Togetherness & Beautiful Memories

This year, me and my husband @PavelSarwar celebrated Eid in Malaysia, and like every year, it felt like I brought a small piece of Bangladesh into our home. Right after the Eid prayer, our house started filling up with guests—something that has now become a cherished tradition.

I had prepared Eid meals for around 60 people, and by the end of the day, we hosted 51 wonderful guests. It was heartwarming to see everyone come together under one roof, enjoying food, conversations, and the joy of Eid.

Since my husband, Pavel, had traveled to Nepal just before Eid as a guest speaker at an event, I had to manage all the Eid shopping on my own this time. Thankfully, one of my nieces was here to support me. I did all the preparations alone—cleaning the house, organizing, and cooking—but it was all worth it. Pavel’s flight was delayed, and he only arrived home at 7 AM on Eid day! He quickly freshened up, and we headed straight for the Eid prayer at National Masjid of Malaysia, which is quite close to our home.

For the Eid menu, I had prepared:
Shemai, Laccha Shemai, Kalojam, Rosogolla, Muffins, Chocolates, Fresh Fruits, Polao, Porota, Chicken Curry, Beef Bhuna, Mutton Bhuna, Mixed Vegetables, Salad, Pasta, Juice, and Milk Tea.

Even after Eid day, guests kept visiting over the next four days. One day we had 18 guests, another day 16, and another with 7 guests. I added new items to the menu on those days like fish curry, daal, different types of bharta (mashed side dishes), two types of laddu, etc.

One of the most special moments was when one of my school friends visited from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, after 9 years! We had a beautiful time catching up and reliving old memories.

I was so occupied throughout the day that I could only apply henna late at night. My niece did the henna for me—she’s really talented at it!

All my Eid shopping was done from Lulu Hypermarket, Mid Valley Megamall, and Nu Sentral. This year was extra special because Pavel and I also celebrated our 12th marriage anniversary on March 29. For the first time in 12 years, I wore my wedding saree again—it brought back so many beautiful memories.

And as always, our house caught everyone’s attention for something very “us”—Google Maps-related flasks, sunglasses, and tote bags were all around! That led to a fun little Google Maps adda (chat) in the middle of our Eid gathering. Many of our guests were already familiar with Local Guides Connect and had joined our previous meetups, including an Iftar event we hosted during Ramadan.

It took me some time to finally sit down and write this post because the past few weeks were filled with preparation, cooking, and hosting. But today, as I finally had a quiet moment, I wanted to share a glimpse of our Eid 2025 celebration, which was all about family, community, and gratitude.

@SumaiyaZafrin los dibujos que se hacen en las manos son permanentes?

The joy of Eid has increased a lot due to the presence of many guests from Bangladesh, which I understood from your writing. Organizing food for so many people is a very difficult task, but you have taken it on with joy. Thank you @SumaiyaZafrin Apu for finding joy through the guests.

No, they’re not permanent! It’s called ‘Mehndi’ or ‘Henna’—a traditional temporary dye made from natural plant leaves. It fades away in a week or two, but the memories last much longer!

@Aslam_hossain Vaia, your kind words truly touched my heart. Alhamdulillah, it was indeed challenging but also incredibly fulfilling. Seeing everyone gathered together, sharing smiles and stories, made all the effort worthwhile. I’m so grateful for the love and presence of our guests—it felt like a little piece of Bangladesh in our home. Thank you for your beautiful message!
