EDIT - Add, Close.... need help

Dear all,

I am not an expert in making edits, but I know I can count on this community to help me understand and hopefully solve a small issue I’ve been running into.

I know this area exceptionally well and have since I was a child. I know the local residents, the history, and the local businesses, including the bars, restaurants, and shops.

However, I have tried many times to make edits to incorrect listings, and almost all of my edits end up rejected.

Because of this, I have one question and one request for help:

Question:

When submitting an edit (with photos), what kind of checks does the automated system perform before approving or rejecting it? Does it wait for corroborating information from other users, or does it evaluate trust based on user history? I’m asking because far too many of my legitimate edits are being turned down.

Could you please look at this listing: place

Issue A: At the current marker location, there is nothing present, only bushes and rocks.

The real physical location is here, though currently listed under a different name.

I have tried reporting and also removing the non existent duplicate marker, but without success.

Issue B: In addition, the company ("La Scogliera Group"a well known locally where a lunch can easily cost over €5,000) owns this and several other listings, such as this one.

I have reported that this place is permanently closed and that none of the attached photos (except for the menu photos) actually belong to this location. Most are photos of the main restaurant.

Here is what is actually at that spot right now: Only ashes.

Any guidance or support on how to properly do these edits would be greatly appreciated!

@MarcoDavoli I don’t really do edits but from what I’ve read on here and see what others have done. It’s usually takes a few steps and you’ll have to wait for each step to get approved to get to the final outcome.

For example:

a) get the duplicate place closed first

b) once it’s closed you can then move your marker for the restaurant

If you try to do too many edits at one go, it is a higher chance of rejection. I guess, it’s just like adding roads.

Also, I am slightly confused with the two map markers that you’ve shared because they don’t seem to align with the satellite imagery. That said, I know satellite imagery can sometimes shift whenever they get an update.

Questions:
a) When I click on the “real physical location” link that you shared, I am seeing the business listing Stabilimento due mari but that doesn’t look like the correct location for the Cala Portese restaurant.

b) Are you reporting that the restaurant or the Stabilimento due mari as no longer there?

From what I can see on Maps (satellite view), the restaurant location should be here.

Side note: I tried following your Streetview in that area, but it’s quite confusing. I’ve included the video below where I tried to drop Pegman into the area but as I move along, I will jump too far and can’t navigate correctly. Is it because of GPS coordinates on your recorder that is also jumping around so it’s not very accurate or is it because there are blue lines near to each other and that sometimes when I click on the arrows, I am somehow jumping too far? In the view, I am just clicking around on the arrows to move. Also, in other areas, where I am following your path that you took, I notice that it jumps quite a distance too, so much, that it’s quite confusing especially when the path is not clear to the viewer.

Its owned they are the only authority to move it.

Its not owned move it to its location or change its name and after approval delete it as duplicate of real one.

Wait for other feedback specially Morten and Ermist.

Before we meet in Dublin in May I had a dry spel of several months where not even 1 percent of my edits got approved.

I did complain and something improved. But I’m still unable to reach the approval rate of name corrections as before the issue.

We don’t know exactly how edits get approved.

I very rarely add photos to an edit. I doubt doing so will improve the approval time/rate.

According to my observations approved is the desired outcome. And I doubt pending is much better than rejected.

Regarding the 5.000 euro restaurant branch you could try getting help in the Google Maps Help Community.

Hallo @MarcoDavoli, zu A gehe ich immer über die Adresse bearbeiten und verschiebe den Pin in der Karte an die richtige Position.
Zu B: Es reicht doch, das Restaurant dort als geschlossen zu melden. Um die Bilder würde ich mich nicht kümmern.

Hi Ciao @MarcoDavoli , I’m sorry about your situation and want to confirm that I have been experiencing the same issue. I had more than 1000 places approved until February 2026. I don’t know the reasons, but all my place edits around 40 have been rejected since March. I also tested an edit that was rejected to me but got approved when submitted by another LG. I recently submitted an appeal form based on the advice of Connect Moderator @NareshDarji.
