Hi all,
This is Anil Krishna, Trivandrum, Kerala, India.
In Google Maps, as all of us know, you can edit places.
Their name, category, whether closed or open etc etc…
But when it comes to an area / locality /, you can’t edit the name of that locality.
True, You can edit – missing roads & places in a locality.
But can’t edit the name of the locality.
Why is it so? Kindly let me learn.
I would like to attach the screenshots of both.
Kindly note that ’ Palayam ’ is an AREA / LOCALITY,
where as
Kerala Science & technology Museum is a PLACE.
Why I post this ??? !!!
Answer is quite simple…
There are thousands of locality names / area names to be corrected, even in a small State of Kerala, in India.
Thanks in advance.
These are the basic layers of the map. It is not possible to area/locality or villages on Google Maps, only the Google Maps team can add or edit them. If you find any errors in basic features you can report them on the Google Maps support forum. @AnilKrishna

Hi @AnilKrishna
The Maps support forum is a forum where you can make a post using your browser. It can not be done using email.
The reason Google Maps will not let us users edit area names is related to preventing errors. I know this sounds absurd when you see lots if issues.
You will need to attach or link to official documentation supporting the change you are proposing. Copyright-free governmental maps are probably the best proof you can attach.
Without such official documentation you will not be successful.
Best of luck
