I am from Kochi, Kerala (the Gods own country), India. Last week people in our locality wake up quite surprised and with some breathing and other allergic problems. The news content explains the reason.
“A major fire which broke out at Brahmapuram waste management plant in Kochi on Friday evening and engulfed the city in a cloud of smoke for many hours on Saturday morning. Residents in areas like MG Road, Vyttila, Maradu, and Panampilly Nagar in Kochi experienced various health issues since early morning hours. People in these areas mainly complained about breathing difficulties and irritation in the eyes.”
Everyone is blaming the corporation authorities, politicians and other officials. But its time to ask yourself how these waste get accumulated and from where? This thought gave me the idea of suggesting google maps to show places like hotels, companies, restaurants, bus stations, railway stations, airport etc how much they will be suitable for the smooth run of the environment from a range of 1 to 10. Like maps showing the restaurants matching our taste of food items.
I think we the local guides must add this kind of things too, for the sake of our environment. If a hotel has lesser points for this section will make the management of the organization to take necessary action, because this is shown publicly in maps. And society will be aware of the situation and they will know from where all these waste is coming from… and they also will start recycling the things on their own at home, because of the guilty charged by the subconscious mind. Let’s make the change and be the change.
Hi @Abin_Antony , reading your post is making me very sad. There are so many things to do, a long way in front of us, that sometimes watching photos like your is discouraging, because we would like to change the world in one day, and we cannot.
Looking back, after one year, we can see that we did a lot, even is it is probably not enough, but we know that is a step, a first stem. As my friend @KashifMisidia is used to say, we are moving a few stones to generate an avalanche. Feel free to join, it will be great to have someone from India with us. On my signature here below you will find more links about this project
In the post that I linked to you there are all the explanation, and a lot of links to other, more detailed posts.
There is a lot to read, I know, because following the links you will pass through one year of history. Have a look to the worldwide “Mymaps of plastic pollution”, to see what has already been done
@ErmesT I wolwo like arrange a meetup in my locality at a waste re-cycling plant, where the fire took place. Can you guide me through the fundamentals.
