What’s the most interesting thing I’ve done as a Local Guide? Simple, eating!
Ever since I moved to Lisbon for college from a little island in the middle of the atlantic ocean, I’ve been trying to go to as many different restaurants as I can. I always take pictures of the food and the space, not to show off to my friends on instagram, but to share them on Google Maps.
This was my first picture I posted that got a lot of views. It made me realize that my photos were reaching a wider audience and it motivated me to start reviewing the places I went to. The likes and responses I began receiving further motivated me to post pictures and reviews on Google Maps because I could see that other people were getting use out of them when deciding what restaurants to visit. Since then, I’ve been doing this for every restaurant that I go to. It’s amazing how impactful a simple picture and a few words can be.
After having visited a fair amount of restaurants in Lisbon, I felt comfortable recommending some of them. I figured, what better way to do this than with a list on Google Maps. So, I created a list called Awesome restaurants in Lisbon that I’ve since shared with many people.
Every time I meet a tourist or even a local that’s looking for a really good place to eat I’ll share this list with them. A few days later I always receive a thank you from them.
Knowing that I was able to help others just by taking pictures and reviewing a place is the best thing about being a Local Guide for me. Doing this while also enjoying amazing meals has definitely been my favorite part about being a Local Guide.
