Eating in Loreto, Most Multiethnic Milan District

Milan is already a very multiethnic city, but there are some areas which are even more than others. There is a Chinatown in Milan, which is small but nice. But there is an area which is traditionally known to be the most multiethnic at all in the city: the Loreto area.

All the area surrounding the famous Piazzale Loreto square is rich of history. In Italy the square is well famous for being the place in which Benito Mussolini (the fascist dictator) has been exposed after being killed. After many years of history, now Loreto is a well developed district of Milan with its relevance inside the metropolitan city. Most of all, it is the most multiethnic district at all, as it features shops, restaurants, bars and communities living here and coming from different countries: we have still the Chinese community (in fact this area can be considered also as a second Chinatown of Milan), but we have also Filipino, Peruvian, Sri Lankan and many other communities coming from different countries. The area is a big rainbow of different cultures surviving all together, with a particular reference to what is maybe the most multiethnic street at all of Milan: Via Padova. A very long street which even covers other Milan districts and which can be a tourist destination for people who don’t like to go to much crowded tourist attractions and still want to experience something which is the symbol of Milan multiculturalism: the most multiethnic district at all. But what you can eat in this district? There are so many choices of places. Among the ones I have tried, here are some options:

for Chinese food, there are so many places:

Yuan Loreto Restaurant
Via Andrea Costa, 4, 20131 Milano MI
https://goo.gl/maps/cFENoGLC5FSazCc36

(this restaurant cooks traditional Chinese recipes, not Westernized)

3+1 Take Away Chinese Restaurant
Via Padova, 58, 20127 Milano MI
https://goo.gl/maps/iLh9AKqooFqNtzft8

(this is a Chinese takeaway with already made typical dishes, but there is also a menu as well from which you can order)

Jubin Due
Via Padova, 7, 20127 Milano MI
https://goo.gl/maps/ed5MrYXWMA9KnmFUA

(it is the second restaurant of the Jubin Group - the other restaurant is located in the Chinatown - and despite more targeted to Westernized Chinese dishes, it also offers some typical authentic recipes)

Mr.Car Restaurant
Viale Monza, 13, 20125 Milano MI
https://goo.gl/maps/EwS4wgVHfxKYm4xq5

(I have described this particular restaurant here: https://www.localguidesconnect.com/t5/General-Discussion/Mr-Car-The-Chinese-Restaurant-For-Motors-Lovers/m-p/1765941)

Jin Yuan Sifu
Via Giuseppe Giacosa, 2, 20127 Milano MI

(If you are craving for just simple Westernized Chinese food or very classic Chinese dishes, this restaurant seems to be among the best for quality and price in the area)

These are just few of the many Chinese restaurants you can find in the area. There are so many! This is just a selection based on prices, quality of food and kindness of staff, but of course there is too much to discover in the area and a whole post would be not enough to cover all the places. If you instead want to eat Chinese pastries, one of the best places in the area is

L.Z. Chinese Pastry Shop
Via Padova, 16, 20131 Milano MI
https://goo.gl/maps/M7gnpZYF89iaaY7n7

When eating Filipino, the obvious choice in the area is

Coo Coo
Via dei Transiti, 3, 20127 Milano MI
https://goo.gl/maps/c6CxQS82vB1eZfbH9

They have Filipino fixed menu and dishes to order from the menu. There are also Filipino desserts like Halo Halo and Leche Flan.

When eating Peruvian, a popular place where to go is

Criollo
Via Padova, 34, 20127 Milano MI
https://goo.gl/maps/uJNzqsiCuCdQRLz27 while if you just crave for Latin pastries, you can find your way to paradise at

Fidel’s Bakery
Via dei Transiti, 7, 20127 Milano MI

These are just small examples. Loreto area is too big to be mentioned in just a single post. It’s a beautiful area, rich of different cultures. An area to discover.
