Here is the complete guide if you want to travel from Lahore/ Islamabad to the Kumrat Valley. This is based on journey made in August 2019.
- From Lahore: Enter M-2 and reach Islamabad
- From Islamabad: Enter M-2 and then to M-1
- Move to M-1 till Sher Khan Interchange
- On exiting Sher Khan Interchange, you will enter newly constructed Swat Expressway
- On Swat Expressway, there is a little diversion at the end of Swat Expressway which will end up on a newly constructed tunnel
- On exiting the tunnel, you will take left turn to National Highway-45 (NH-45)
- NH-45 will lead you to Dir (Chakra - Timergara - Lower Dir - Upper Dir)
- Road conditions on NH-45 are excellent, it is a zig-zag road passing by mountains with high mountains on one side and deep down river on the other
- In Upper Dir, you can clearly see a pathway with a gate with Baab-e-Kumrat (The door of Kumrat) mentioned on it
- On entrance of this gate road conditions are good until you reach Patraak (a village in Upper Dir)
- After Patraak, road conditions gradually becomes worst
- You can take any Car/ Coaster/ SUV ahead of Tapral but due to worst road condition your speed might be 10-20 km/h
- Some people go on more speed but its frankly damage of your car and tyres
- Car with low ground clearance must go slow to avoid any damage from the bottom
- This 2-3 hours journey will take you to Thal
- From Thal you need to hire a Fielder/ 4x4 Jeep to reach Kumrat Valley
- Fielder can accommodate 4 people while 4x4 jeeps can accommodate upto 10 people
- You need to bargain with them for reasonable fares
- From Thal it will take 2-3 hours to reach the depth of Kumrat Valley

TIPS
- You can travel to Kumrat on foot, it takes 2-3 hours to reach a place where you can find reasonable shelter
- You may take snacks etc with you so you have to buy minimum edibles from Kumrat Valley
- 3 days are more than enough to explore the valley
- Its easy for families to visit Kumrat Valley
