Recently Connect Moderator @AdamGT wrote Local Guides Movers & Shakers a great post that lists the top Local Guides actively contributing and achieving by different metrics including points, photo views, and star photo views. He went even one step further and in the T100 System which is the backbone to the leaderboards posted here on Connect and used by Local Guides to enter their monthly Maps contribution data, he added advanced features that allow the most amazing analysis of a Local Guide’s personal Maps contributions activity.
As an advanced user of this powerful system, today I road-tested these new advanced features and want to share this with you all. It really is a fantastic way to get an even more detailed analysis of your Google Maps contributions. Here is the simple approach I took and what this is all about.
Method:
- The System provides detailed tables for each metric showing points, photo views, star photo views values, and the delta changes in each of these since day one. That’s right, the analysis has gone right back through all my historical data to when I first joined the Top 100 Leaderboards. The meaning of each delta metric is explained in Adam’s readme post. So to start off with I checked all the tables for correct formatting and calculations of the delta values, indicating the changes from one month to the next. You will see the results in the screenshots below!
- Delta/day, Delta/photo, and Delta/view values are not shown in the tables I guess because Adam realizes that too much information on Tables makes them hard to read on mobile phones. However, it’s easy to check these metrics from the new delta charts. Using the Delta Photo Views chart as an example, the following is a simple approach for this.
- To increase the scale in the chart of the metric of interest, use the chart’s legend menu at the bottom to turn off all metrics other than the current one that you are interested in. Below I have shown that I want to check the Delta Views/Photo metric, so I switch off all the other chart metrics.

- I decided to check my most recent Delta Views/Photo value. So I moved the mouse pointer onto that data point on the chart to display the data value.
- You could next get another data point on the chart and get the respective data value.
- With these data values and the information in your tables, you should then be able to check the correctness of sample test data values.
Below I have shown example tables and charts that will help better explain all this.
1- The Delta Points:-
is the value of the points earned by a Local Guide over the past month.
2- Delta Photos Views:-
is the absolute value of the total photo views gained by a Local Guide over the past month.
3- Delta Star Photo Views:-
is similar to the Delta Views however in this case, it represents the views gained over the past month by a Local Guide’s most viewed photo, or star photo.
The other thing that is important to say is that with this system I only have to spend 5 to 10 minutes each month entering my monthly Maps data and the system does all the tabulations and charting for me. There is no need for me to do what @TerryPG used to do and many still do now to try to do all this with pen and paper or spreadsheets like Excel. Like Terry, I am now Working Smarter not Harder!
Conclusion:
The more I have used the Top 100 System, the more I have learned how to improve my contributions to Maps and become a better Local Guide. It really is an amazing system and I cannot agree more with Adam when he says, the Top 100 Leaderboards are much more than just about ranking of Local Guides. If you are interested in detailed statistics and analysis of your photos using the Top 100 System’s Startrack prediction feature, you will find all details here.
