Eastern versus Central Europe

Hi everyone,

I must share with you a thought that’s been on my mind for a while no:. I am constantly amazed that my country - Czech Republic - is being constantly marked as Eastern Europe (in the geographical sense)… In case some of you don’t know, there is also Central Europe and the following countries belong there: Czech Republic, Austria, Poland, Slovakia and Hungary.

One more thing that constantly surprises me is the fact that many tourists believe we used to be a part of the USSR. No, we never were, we have always been a sovereign country although “serving” to the USSR. We were part of the communist bloc, we were occupied by the USSR (with their soldiers stationed here) since 1968 until 1989, but we have never been part of the soviet republic as such.

Also, we used to be Czechoslovakia and we have peacefully split with Slovakia in 1993.

Greetings from the heart of Europe!

Great post @TerraPax . I agree with you and agree that Czech Republic is the heart of Europe, you only have to look at the map.
