Earth Year 2019-2020!: Meet Up at Waterway 15 Most Saturdays for Clean-up in Seattle

Earth Year began with a simple idea for the month of April: gather for an event each Saturday that honors this Blue Planet we share. Since then what started as two women has multiplied to three women who, over the course of four weekends, removed more than 30 lbs of trash (and counting!) from Waterway 15 in Seattle!

The small but intimate space intersects at the shore of North Lake Union under the gaze of I-5 overpass next to Ivar’s Salmon house; its maintenance (or lack thereof) has a strong impact on the surrounding ecosystem as it has a built in run-off for drainage into the lake.

The project has become such a center point of satisfaction and progress that the work will continue throughout the year (most Saturdays around 9:30am - reach out to us to join the crew!).

Once Waterway 15 is at a steady maintenance point another park or public Seattle space will be added to the project roster. All who are interested are welcome to join! As the group increases it can be possible to have multiple spaces undergoing independent clean-up and innovation. Eventually the goal is to advocate for places such as Waterway 15 to have stop-gap measures in place to prevent further dumping or defacing (i.e. petition to the city for re-installation of a trash can on site then plan a course of action for regular collection). All are welcome to join Earth Year Intitiative Seattle 2019-2020 :two_hearts::seedling::earth_asia: Meeting most Saturdays throughout 2019 and beyond~!
