Earth Day 2025: A Balance Between Human Development and Environment. @MarcoDavoli
When we talk about Earth Day, it is not just a day – it is an occasion to remind us what responsibilities we have towards our Earth and living creatures. This year, on Earth Day 2025, we talk about two such man-made places that represent a sweet balance between environment and urban development – Delhi’s Central Park, above Rajiv Chowk Metro Station, and Gwalior Zoo.
Central Park, Rajiv Chowk – A refreshing breath of greenery in urban heat
In a fast growing city like Delhi, where the heat reaches 45°C, Central Park becomes a natural “oxygen zone” and cools down. The green cover of grass, dense trees, and the sweet sound of birds – everything makes this place a small paradise. People come here not just for relaxation or strolling, but it is also a mental escape for them – away from urban stress.
The flower decorations, proper sitting arrangements and cleanliness in this park have made it a model urban green space. People who have been seeing this place for the last 10-15 years know how this park has been transformed with proper planning and dedication. On Earth Day, this is a wonderful example that nature can be kept alive even in the middle of the city.
Gwalior Zoo – An option for a safe life away from nature
Well, Gwalior Zoo is a place that is a means of protection for those animals that are no longer safe in their natural habitat. For animals like lions and tigers, which are natural predators of the jungle, this zoo has become a home where they can be looked after and people also get information about them.
But we must also remember that the roads and highways built near zoos or wildlife sanctuaries sometimes become a threat to animals. Killing of animals in road accidents is a sensitive issue, which we should think about with a human perspective on Earth Day.
The thought of living together: Environment and Human Development
From Delhi’s Central Park to Gwalior Zoo, both these places tell us that if we want, human-made systems can work together with nature. We just have to make a little change in our thinking - along with development, protecting nature is also equally important.
On Earth Day 2025, let’s pledge that every city should have a central park, every creature should have a safe zoo - and every human should have an awareness towards nature in his heart. Only then can we imagine a beautiful, safe and sustainable future.
