DWELLING IN TO NATURE

Being born in God’s own country - Kerala in India and having grown and spent quite a good amount of time , I feel sad when I see the extent of deforestation that has happened over the years across all places , thanks to greed and reckless and irresponsible development over the years. Successive Governments backed by powers that be, have, in the name of promoting and encouraging tourism, cut at the very root of ecology in their greed to earn money without realizing or choosing to ignore the catastrophic effect it has on fragile ecology. Why they do not think for a moment that the very same place which they promote , will not exist thanks to mindless exploitation. This has posed grave threat to the animals whose existence is threatened. Tourists are not educated on responsible tourism or choose to ignore and show scant respect for sustainable tourism like not being sensitive by throwing plastic waste/ left over food etc; endangering all species. Recent discovery of 300 kgs of plastic in whales stomach in southeast Asia is a stark reminder of the inherent danger posed. Is it not time that we, as local guides take it upon us to educate through our postings the need for sustainable tourism?
