First of all I would like to thank you for bringing out such a beautiful post @Tandrima2 . You have given a clear description in a nutshell and its very interesting and informative.

Here in South India this festival is known as Navratri or Dussehra and the last day as VIJAYADASAMI, that is victory of good over evil. Maa Durga kills the demon king Mahishasura. Lakshmi, Goddess of wealth, Saraswati, Goddess of knowledge and Parvati, Goddess of valour combine together and take the form of Kali and slay the demon.

In Tamil Nadu we keep Kolu, means display of dolls of Goddess and Gods, arranged in steps. This is followed in Temples too.

The below is the picture of the kolu, that is arrangement of dolls, before the onset of this festival. This will last for 10 days.

Many programs like music and dance take place in many parts of the city, especially in Temples. Wishing you a very very HAPPY Navratri.
