There is an Asian Supermarket here in Auckland, New Zealand.
The English name is: Panmure Fresh -188 reviews
The Chinese name is: Wanjiafu (万家福）- 160 reviews
I have personally rung the owner to get confirmation that these are their English and Chinese names.
Do we merge these two or we delete the less reviewed one?
@OliverKIWI I notice this often. You are given an option to say it is a duplicate when you edit. Places can also have both languages on the one listing.
I think one depicting the original place will remain other will be deleted @OliverKIWI #LetsGuide
@TheEagleEye do I change the name to Panmure Fresh (Wanjiafu) or I just add something in my review saying Panmure Fresh = Wanjiafu?
@OliverKIWI I would just put Panmure Fresh. If the shop is nearby to you, maybe you should suggest to them that they claim the business and manage the listing on Google My Business (GMB).

I used to go there every week - I can let the owner/manager know about it. Perhaps it was added by a local guide, when the ownership changes, it all becomes messy LOL! @TheEagleEye

You may not know that each place on Google Maps can have several names in each of their language-specific fields. You can only see them if you change the language setting on your device. I have set my phone to English hence I normally get to see both English and Danish names (I live in Denmark where the native language is Danish).
Your two POIs should ideally be merged. When they have merged the photos and reviews are not lost but transferred to the POI that you chose to merge the secondary POI into.
Merging is not very easy for local guides to do. It takes a lot of planning, patience, and some luck. But while service currently is not normal due to the corona I would for sure wait until service returns to normal. It is impossible to do now.

In English settings search
Search: Panmure Fresh - get Panmure Fresh
Search: 万家福 - get Panmure Fresh
Search: Wanjiafu - get Wanjiafu (Wanjiafu is the English pronunciation of 万家福)
In Chinese settings search
Search: Panmure Fresh - get Panmure Fresh
Search: 万家福 - get 万家福
Search: Wanjiafu - get 万家福
So Wanjiafu and 万家福 are the two names in 2 different languages as you said.
I will try to give it a go to merge after the COVID19 - both listings are not claimed.

we did have this conversation:
Me: You played too much games, you need to study harder otherwise you can’t be a Lego designer.
He: mmmm…I can be a Lego salesperson.
It happens, when stuff like that happens, I report the one which has less number of reviews under duplicated places.
I think this can be marked duplicate. There is such an option. But I do have an issue with my own listing. RightWord where I offer my professional services moved to a different place and it appears to be ‘closed’ at the immediate past location. But then perhaps one may have to wait for this #Covid19 pandemic to give #GoogleMaps enough time to make / confirm those changes.
