I suppose this is more of a discussion point than a complaint, but more and more recently while viewing LG profiles within Google Maps I’ve noticed LG’s uploading multiple images of a location that may not be the exact same file, but are extremely similar in terms of composition.
Rather than throw anyone under the bus, I’ve uploaded two personal examples below of what I mean:
The difference between the two is slight - I’d personally choose one to upload and delete the other, however more often than not it appears that some users are just simply not being particularly selective of the images they upload, so when taking multiple images in a row perhaps to find the best angle, they might upload the bunch to Google Maps rather than choosing the best one.
It’s tricky since, technically, they are different images, but it’s undeniable that it causes Google Maps to clog up with images that are extremely similar. It’s understandable when users are uploading images that are similar in composition to other users, but when individuals are uploading multiple images that don’t show anything different as with the above example, it can be frustrating - particularly when there are LGs at higher levels guilty of it (none that I’ve seen active here in the community however!), inflating their points score with images that don’t really help.
What do you think? Is it something you would typically choose to ignore, or would you go so far as to report?
Thank you for sharing. Just to let you know that I’ve moved your post out of the spam and it is now visible publicly. Some posts are being automatically marked as spam, apologies for that.
I have this problem too, but from the other side of the creative street. I take lots of pictures. Hundreds and hundreds of them. I pick the best ones to post here. But Google is pretty aggressive about wanting them ALL, rather than just the ones I choose. I often get Google Maps suggestions to post pix of where I’ve been, wanting me to post the rest of them, particularly since they’re all GPS-tagged and have specific place suggestions attached. For a while I just took their suggestions, which means there are often dozens of shots of the same place. I’ve since learned to ignore those things, but it still happens occasionally. I first realized it was happening when Google wanted me to post my pictures of Longmont, Colorado - but it had tagged the 492 publicity stills I took in Joe’s basement for the Upstart Crow theater production of The Lion in Winter!
I really like the system in general; I just wish it’d stop asking me to post pix which I’ve already decided not to share. How many of my 6,722 pix of Canyonlands National Park do people really want to see?
I have noticed the same and think is absolutely not helpful. Why posting multiple photos that dont improve or give more information of the place? Local guides is to help people who had not been there; I think uploading repeated pictures does not support that purpose. The same with bad photos. I think some LGs should be more selective with the pictures they post.
