Local Guides love to review and take pictures of everything they order, including their drinks. Due to the Pandemic, most of us are missing our favorites bars. So, last month (yeah, I’m kind of late with this recap), we got together to talk about our favorite drinks, and we had a lovely happy hour.
Some of us prepared our drinks, and others joined us with their beers, sodas, or juice because the essential thing in a happy hour is to have fun.
Fun fact: we finished the meet-up after two hours of conversation, but some people decided to stay. So, we had an “after.” And after some minutes speaking English, we realized that everyone who remained in the room could speak Spanish (@SarahKa, @Jesi, @SilvyC @Juank0980 , @DianaTuaty and myself). So, we switched the conversation to Spanish for about an hour more.
Here are some of the drinks presented during our meet-up:
Alexandre, Brazil
Drink: Caipirinha
I demonstrated how to prepare a Brazilian Caipirinha, which is the most famous Brazilian Cocktail. Everyone in Brazil knows how to make it, or at least thinks that does. I’m one of the guys who thinks that knows how to do it. The ingredients are pretty simple: you need lime, sugar, ice, and cachaça (a Brazilian distilled spirit that can be replaced by vodka or other equivalent alcohol drink). You will cut the lime in small wedges, muddle the lime with sugar, add the alcohol drink, ice, and shake in a shaker.
Matteo, Italy
Myrtle Cocktail
Our Italian friend, @Matt95Bassett , brought us aSardinian myrtle cocktail. The ingredients are Myrtle, lemon juice, lemon peel, ice, and honey. If you are not familiarized, Myrtle is a popular and traditional liquor from Sardegna, an island in the Mediterranean, where Matteo lives.
Luigi, Italy
Stardard Aperol Spritz
Luigi chose a classic that it is Standard Aperol Spirit, his favorite drink. Aperol + sprite + white wine + piece of orange.
Sarah, Brazil
Caipirinha freeze pop and Brazilian Cachaças
She presented a curious way to drink a caipirinha, a kind of “Caipirinha freeze pop.” After preparing a Caipirinha, you put inside a plastic bag. She also showed us a variety of cachaças from Brazil, like Golden, Silver, and Jambu’s cachaça. Jambu is a flowering herb from the North of Brazil that lets the mouths asleep, and it was one of the funniest moments of the meet-up when she drunk it. Lol
Ricardo, Mexico
Mezcal Cocktail
@LightRich presented to us a very traditional cocktail from Mexico that is made with Mezcal (distilled alcoholic drink). He used orange juice, Mezcal, chili in powder, and natural Syrup (once he hadn’t grenadine, that is used in the original recipe). He also shared a funny Mexican quote about this drink: “For everything bad, you drink Mezcal, for everything good, also. If there is no remedy, drink a liter and half”. (If you understand Spanish, it is funnier because it rhymes: "Para todo mal, Mezcal; para todo bién, también… y si no hay remedio: litro y medio
Welby, Brazil
Submarine
Welby’s favorite drink is the traditional submarine (whiskey + beer), but he also showed a very popular Brazilian cachaça called 51, with the funny slogan “A good idea.”
Stella, Greece
Rakomelo
@Stella2 had a Rakomelo, a drink from the Island of Creta. It is made with a warm spirit, honey, cinnamon, and carnation. You can drink it hot or cold, later.
Juan Cardona, Colombia

It was early to drink liquor in Colombia, so he prepared a “Refajo,” a popular drink in Colombia that mix beer, and soda.
Jesi, Argentina
Menocina Beer
Jesi had a red beer, called Mendocina, from the city of Mendoza, in Argentina.
Max, Brazil

Celeste, United States

According to** @NexusKC **, it is kind of a Moscow mule drink. It was created in the city of Lawrence in Missouri, the same town where Basketball was created. It is pretty simple to prepare: Kansas bourbon, ginger beer, and bitters.

Roger, Brazil

He wasn’t drinking as well but told us about one of his favorite drinks, called Catuaba. It’s a very cheap and accessible liquor that is sweet.
Silvys, Argentina
Marguerita
Silvys does not use to drink, but Amarula and Marguerita are her favorite drinks.
Tessa, United States
Caribbean Rum punch
It was early in San Francisco to drink alcohol, so @anu7spice had a cranberry juice. If it weren’t a pandemic, she would buy ingredients to prepare a Caribbean Rum punch. It is a classic Caribbean drink, made with orange juice, pineapple juice, any kind of rum, bitters, and grenadine. You can put a slice of orange or cherry to complete.
Yanira, México
