Dream big, or what the Local Guides program means to me ;)

Before I started writing this post, I decided to scroll down my google map reviews and find out when it all started; I was surprised by the number of reviews I’ve written the past four years! So my first review was written when a client proudly told me that his company was on google maps and asked me to leave a review. Very soon after that, I began putting stars in most of the places I was visiting - it was fun and felt like I was keeping track not only of the places but also of the memories I was making there. And this is when the photos came: You can’t deny that being a millennial means being an aspiring photographer and there is no better place than google maps to post your pictures and get thousands of views!

But I’ll be honest with you; everything really started way before. When I was younger, I used to spend hours and hours on Google Earth zooming in random places and looking at streets, neighbourhoods and landscapes. Dreaming of travelling around the globe! Signing up for the google local guides programme was naturally the next step for me.

A lot of people ask me why I’m so passionate about being a Local Guide. Adding places, answering questions, leaving reviews and posting pictures can take an awful lot of your time. But what you earn in return is priceless. As a frequent traveller and as a person with the worst orientation skills ever, I feel empowered knowing that I have in my hands a tool that allows me not only to navigate safely but also to find at any time amazing spots to visit. Even before I visit a new place, city or country though, I always look up lists or posts made by other local guides so I can enjoy my travels, not having to worry about finding cool places to visit.

When you appreciate so much all this advice and reliable recommendations, you surely want to contribute and share your experiences, too. And that’s why I always post interesting photos and leave reviews of places, especially when I travel. It feels like I am leaving behind a ‘trail’ from which fellow travellers can be helped in the future. At the same time though, I create a beautiful travel memory collage that I can always revisit and cherish those moments forever!

It’s a bliss getting my monthly emails as a local guide and I always look forward to the end of the year when I get my annual report on google maps. Being a local guide gives me an identity and allows me to interact with a global community of people with similar interests. It helps me explore, share and enjoy.

Hi @Effie_1

Welcome to Local Guides Connect!

I have just released your post from the Spam Filters. I would like to apologize for your post being marked as spam. Our filters run 24/7 and they can be a little harsh at time. You can visit this article to learn more: Why was my Connect post marked as spam?

Thank you , but now I have two posts that are identical and can’t delete one of the two :see_no_evil:

Hi @Effie_1

Thank you for sharing this with us. I’m going to merge your post to another one which is the same and you will be able to see it there.

Thanks but please be careful because it is the link changes then they won’t be able to see the post for my application for Google Connect Live 2020, as I wrote the post for this purpose. Thanks
