Dragon fruits, good for diet

Like vegetables, I love to eat fruits that are in different colors. Mixing different colors to food or salad can be very attractive and interesting. Dragon fruit with different color just reminded me when we could travel freely and joined different occasions with cocktails and meeting even with yummy refreshment. Dragon fruit is one of the fruits that they use for cocktail and fruit salad.

ផ្លែស្រការនាគ reads as [Sroka Neak/ Dragon skin fruit] is generally known as Dragon fruit, also known as pitahaya or strawberry pear, is a tropical fruit known for its vibrant red skin, while yellow skin is rarely seen. The pulp of the fruit is commonly white, but it is also red that’s sweeter than the white pulp. They all have black seeds. Dragon fruit may look exotic like dragon skin, but its flavors are similar to other fruits, something between a kiwi and a pear.

In Cambodia, dragon fruit is grown in the farm in many regions, including the Mekong regions at Kompong Cham, in Koh Kong, Kompot or Siem Reap. It is not difficult to grow them. A kilo of dragon fruit costs from 1$ - 3$. They are also grown in countries in Southeast Asia or South Asia. However, you can find the fruit in the shop or store near you either fresh or frozen, worldwide.

Colors of the fruit - you may only see red skin with white flesh before but there are three types available here:

  • Pink skin with pink flesh (tastes best among all, more expensive)
  • Red skin with white flesh (common type)
  • Yellow skin for white flesh (rare type)

The yellow variant is called AMARILLA ( the botanical name is Selenicereus megalanthus)

The beautiful white flowers of Dragon Fruit only bloom at night and during the next day the petals become dry, revealing the fruit that is already developing and for this reason this tree ia also called “The queen of the night”.

Lookining about receipes i found this that maybe intersest:

So, you are saying that you only have yellow variant but not red one @NeshaMC Interesting to learn about that for sure.

The cost here is only 1$/kilo for now. It may be 2-3$ at other places.

Thank you @Sophia_Cambodia

I really love the nature and expecially fruit, during my travels in tropical countries I love to taste various fruits and learn about local customs. Colorful, fragrant, tasty, extravagant, energizing, rich in nutritional properties. fruit has a great fascination for me. In addition to the appearance and the extraordinary taste, many fruits, especially tropical ones, also have surprisingly healthy properties and, if included in a varied and balanced diet, can provide energetic substances to face the day in the best way.

I have read a lot about Durian but have never venture to taste it

Ciao from Italy!
