It’s been a long time since I’m a photography fan. It’s not my profession, although I do sell some photos on Shutterstock (profile here) and get some money for it. But what inspires me to go outside and carry my heavy camera is not the money itself. It is deeper than that! It’s almost an urge to capture a new angle, a new perspective, the urge to see what others haven’t seen, or maybe to register what others weren’t able to register.
On my last trip to Sweden I took my beloved Nikon along with me, despite it’s heavy weight and the limited luggage size I could carry on. Well, for the sake of taking memorable winter photos, it sounded like a good trade! But my Nikon decided to take some days off, and the damm thing didnt work during the entire trip.
At first I was so upset with the lazy-heavy camera! My husband and I live in Brazil, so I do understand that the weather conditions from the tropics are different from the ones in the Arctic. But come’on camera!!! I needed you and I carried you all the way from Brazil to Sweden! You could have shown some respect, couldn’t you?
No. The camera froze to death and only worked inside the hotel. Hopefully I have an Iphone X, whose camera does a pretty good job, so I was able to take great pictures even though the equipment wasn’t the one I wanted.
So life went on, the trip was amazing, but I started to wonder if the heavy professional camera was really the one I should take on my next trip. Maybe downsizing could be an option.
Back in Brazil I spoke to some colleagues heard a precious tip: get yourself a Gopro 7 Hero and capture amazing night photos/videos. I did some reserch on the Gopro, thought about the pros and cons, and ended up buying the tiny camera. It is really tiny comparing to my current gear.
In a couple of weeks we will head to Finland to see the end season of the Northern Lights. Let’s see if the Gopro will make it up for the spectacle!
I just hope the little one doesnt freeze in the North Pole :). Ha ha
