Down with 5 star reviews

What’s up with giving 5 stars reviews to everything? Enough already! 3 stars is good, 4 stars is very good and 5 is exceeds expectations. I encourage everyone to start reflecting establishments and services appropriately. The bulk of reviews should not exceed 4 stars unless you are actively filtering out these reviews, in which case why are you even considering yourself a true Local Guide? avg to poor reviews are EVEN MORE valuable than 5 star ones. Do the necessary.

Hi @vijayk416

Welcome to Connect! And thanks for your first post… albeit of a slightly angry post!

It’s a great point though and definitely one up for further discussions with the rest of the community! Unfortunately, as you can see, you’re not getting many hits and rather than this post sinking into obscurity, I would welcome you to either rewrite this post or write a second post with a few changes:

  • Add a cover photo (make sure the picture belongs to you as any copyright materials usually will be removed immediately) - this really helps to grab the attention of the community! My tip: pick a simple photo (something dark and not too busy) and add the title of your post to it in big white font so that it’s super clear and legible.
  • Use a slightly different title - again this helps to grab attention. Perhaps something like: “How to properly rate a venue” for the clean, direct approach.
  • Flesh out your points a bit more - explain what 1 to 5 stars mean to you (and should mean to the community), why it’s good to be critical (but fair), show some examples of a 1, 3 and 5 star reviews should be like.
  • Remember the #letsguide motto - encourage folks to comment and provide their thoughts on the matter.

As I said earlier, your post makes a valid point and it’ll be great to get the community to notice this ands really think about how they rate and review places.

Anyway, it’s rather a lot for a first post and maybe your first dive into Connect. So do spend some time exploring the site and keep contributing to and participating in the community.
