Dosaaaaaaaaaa right from Chennai, India

As requested by my fellow local guide @rangoli_gupta . Here is a post for you all just about dosa. Let me start with how does it actually taste, for those who are getting enlightened today.

People who know already might want to skip this paragraph. I’ll use a reference here. We all have tasted those boiled grains of rice. Let’s imagine if rice was flattened and made a dough, and spread across a pan just like a circle. Roasting it until the underlying layer of that circle is light brown. Will that taste good ? Oops I forgot about the butter. A little sprinkle of butter all over the dosa. What does it taste like ? It tastes very different from rice. I’m just not able to find words for the taste. Let me tell it tastes plain with some hidden tastes of butter and brown roast. Sorry if I’m not describing it exactly.

It’s a very famous dish in South India and a few places in North. It is a plain dish with side dishes called sambhar and chuthey, may be check the last image of this post. But this is not yet done. Well how can I post something so boring right ? I’ll tell you what, we people in Chennai make things sassier and yummier on each and every traditional dishes. I’ll mention just one place in this post. It’s called Do-shh-ahh

Do-shh-ahh just like the name of the place the food here is awesome. I know I’ve been hyping this place from the very start but I assure this place is worth the hype. This picture of three dosa’s on the pan. But not the traditional ones. I’ll give you a small gist of the menu. The ones in the picture starting from the left are pizza dosa (your next favorite ?) , paneer dosa and pav bhaji dosa. It’s beautiful when they make the traditional boring dishes to the modern continental dishes.

I couldn’t resist but add one more to the list. This one which I tasted recently. It’s looks like sandwich, but they name it dosa. The actual name is “Mexican cheese bread dosa”. It’s the best thing I tasted ever in my life time. A pinch of Mexican stuff and a layer of dosa over it. Wrapped up with toasted bread and cheese sprinkled inside it. Both these places add up value by adding the right quantity of cheese and spices. Not compromising to reduce costs but improve tastes to every bite you have. Everything is hand made especially for you.

The best part is they are not any 5 star restaurants but small shops that make food that are in competition to these restaurants. Both these places are famous and disciplined. They only open 5 PM in the evening and close late in the night, hence making it a perfect time to have a bite for the teens who are thier major customer base. Well finally this is how the most traditional dosa with chutney and sambhar looks like.

Thanks @rangoli_gupta for asking and motivating me to write this post.

I must tell you @AbhayJatinDoshi rht way you describe things is just awesome. Thank you for sharing the authentic as well as fusion recipes of dosa. The three dosas in a row were just mouth watering. I visited Chennai at the age of eleven but back then all these facilities were unknown to me and the place was unexplored. But next time I visit Chennai Do-shh-ahh will be the first place to visit. And last but not least I’m gonna make m Mexican cheese bread dosa at my home for sure.
