Donki, a shop where you can buy cheap items

Don Quixote is the biggest discount shop group in Japan.
Almost all Japanese call it Donki, because it is easier than the real name and close to Japanese.

This store sells a wide range of products, including food, appliances, and clothing.
So, when I need something, I go to Donki first.

I bought a training wear there when I needed to experience the Aikido martial arts.
(Actually I couldn’t stand a two and a half hour lesson, so it was just an experience.)

It’s been getting hot recently and mosquitoes have been coming into my apartment.
I needed an item to get rid of mosquitoes.
I was looking for mosquito coils but my sister dislikes them so I bought an electric mosquito repellent.

In Japanese the item is called “Earth no mat”.

It is a product made by a pharmaceutical company called Earth, which uses liquid instead of mats, and is shaped like a pig.
According to the instructions for usage, mosquitoes in my room will be killed by just setting this bottle in the black pig device and switching it on.

At Donki, you can buy these items cheaper than usual.
However, types of products are different depending on the store.
A year ago, I lived in a town called Koganei.
The Donki there sold a lot of food such as fruits and vegetables.
However, the Donki in Mitaka City, where I live now, is a bit smaller than the one in Koganei City. They sell sweets and instant food but not fruits and vegetables.

However, the customer service here is very polite and pleasant.
I always buy everything with my credit card.
When I bought the black pig, I inserted my credit card into the machine, after having finished the payment, I tried to store the card in my wallet. However, the clerk stopped me.
“Excuse me, but could you show me your credit card again? I need to check your credit card signature.”

It was the first time a clerk checked my credit card signature.

I’ve been using my credit card for years, but nobody paid much attention to my signature until now.

I carefully drew my signature on the receipt. I thought I wouldn’t do it roughly in the store.

Hello @Coco1228 ,

Thank you for sharing about the Donki shops.

I see you like this chain. Did you happen to create a list of these places on Google Maps? I think it would be useful for other Local Guides who like to go shopping there.

This is an unusual but amusing name for a shop, perhaps it is like a Dollar Shop in the US or Ghar Sansar in India.

Also, I never knew there are mosquitoes in Japan. I thought these are in tropical countries only.

Finally, the cashier seems to be an alert and intelligent person.

Thanks for sharing some interesting photos @Coco1228

Hello @MashaPS @ thank you for your great comment
Yes, I love the shop and I enjoy shopping. And thank you for telling me about new things, actually I am not really familiar with lists even though I created one before applying to Connect Live. It is a good idea to create new lists and understand this system, thanks!

Hi @Coco1228 ,

Thanks for your reply.

I think here is the best place to learn something new. You’d have at your disposal a vast amount of supportive Local Guides who would love to share their knowledge and experience with you.

I would also like to recommend this article to help you started creating lists - Your guide to creating lists on Google Maps. And this one The best lists created by Connect Live attendees where you may see the lists created by fellow Local Guides and get inspired.

This is such an interesting article. I like the piggy as well, such an interesting innovation. Usually, coins are stored in piggy banks and then crushed when full, but in this case, you don’t break the piggy, you just put mosquito repellent :joy:

Hello @TusharSuradkar , thank you for your interesting comment.

I appreciate you sharing about Ghar Sansar in India, it is really nice of you. If I have a chance to go to India I would like to visit one.

Ahh, I wish there were no mosquitoes in Japan, but every summer Japanese people suffer from mosquitoes so we really need items to remove them.

Yes, the cashier was a really nice person so I could shop with peace of mind thanks to him.

By the way, the picture in your signature is so nice, thank you for sharing.

Hello @MashaPS , thank you for your nice comment.

Yes, Google Connect is not only a place to post articles, but also to learn many new things.

The article you sent in the link is very nice. I read some articles when I started but not everything. There are some great articles I didn’t notice then, but now I learned something new.

I appreciate you sharing, I think I can enjoy the activities of the local guide more than before.

Hello @banefromtheights, thank you for your great comment. One of the reasons I bought this was because it had a cute shape.

Sure, you can’t remove the piggy bank’s contents without breaking it, but you don’t have to do this. And nowadays, there are also cute pig piggy banks with rubber bottles that don’t have to be broken.

Thanks, @Coco1228
I link the picture directly from online using the macro feature of this connect forum.
