Do you write bad reviews?

Hello, Guides!

I’m wondering if you leave bad reviews often, for me is still complicated sometimes and I prefer not to review the place at all.

But then, thinking that it’s actually for the community and that if there is something bad about the place, I prefer to know it.

And how often do you check the reviews before going to the place?

Thanks @Naniboal for initiating this topic.

In my view review is the honest and personal experience of an individual. I don’t categorize review as Good, Bad or Neutral.

The practice I follow is to share the truth based on my own personal experience to help people to get the right information that they need.

Also, for this post the most appropriate board would be “How-tos”, so please move it there.

When I post a review concerning my experience with a restaurant, museum etc. I consider the questions: What info is usefull for others and what is really helpfull. If I have nothing to share, I won’t write a review. If you write “the food was bad” or “the food was not tasty.”, this isn’t informative. But when you write: “If you don’t like salt in your food, you better can avoid this place.” or “the place was very crowdy, I couldn’t understand my friend sitting next to me.”, … this could be helpfull. You can say such things in a positive or negative way, but try to be respectfull, correct, don’t insult the owner. I e.g. don’t like places with loud music or a hollow acoustics, I’m afraid of dogs, but if the dogs behave themselves and leave me alone, I can live with the fact that in some places dog owners can bring their dog inside the restaurant or cafe.

Great questions, @Naniboal . I do agree that this should be moved to How Tos. But to answer the questions.

  1. Yes, I write bad reviews. However, I mostly write them about the service, amenities, accessible features, or things that ownership can control.
  2. I always read reviews, negative and positive, before eating at a restaurant. I do take the overtly negative reviews in context and forgive one-off bad experiences.
