Do you lose points when you edit a review?

I usually review the restaurants I visit so I can refer back to them in the future. If I’m going back to a restaurant I visited before, I usually try a new dish and update my review. In recent times, I have noticed that I often lose 10 points when I update the review. I suspect it was the 10 points awarded for the detailed review that I lose. Has anyone noticed same issues as mine? I’m just curious to know why it occurs and is there any solutions for this.
Thanks in advance :folded_hands:

Dear @SDSanth , we will be rewarded points on updating our reviews. Well, I didn’t check upon that. I will tag @Kumaarsantosh , whether he has came across this issue.

Hello @SDSanth I often do that too. exactly like you, when visiting a place that I have visited before and then there is something new. I often edit my review, or add photos. but I havent noticed whether the points decrease or increase. thanks

@SDSanth Don’t remember noticing this thing There are 21 Points for one good detailed review with rating.
You generally lose points for deleting something. I don’t think there is any point loss on updating a review. However you do lose reactions and also there might be an issue for switch from a detailed to normal review where you might lose 10 points for going brief from descriptive review.

I will be covering some information about reviews mostly like next or NTN week.

Hello @SDSanth, same as @BudionoS, @Trail_blazer and @Rahul001, I edit frequently (I should say always, because I always find typos later), but to be honest, I never checked the points later

That’s means there is no loss of points otherwise you may have noticed it by now (given that you have edit a lots of reviews) .

Not really @Trail_blazer, while keeping carefully track of my photos, I don’t account for the points and would only notice loosing many on a single day. Besides that, I don’t write so many reviews.

Ok wil
Let’s see. I have some 600 reviews and I get prompt a lot to write new ones but since then easy spam filters I avoid writing reviews but I still write 5-6 reviews a year I guess. I have noticed a few things I will see if that’s true or not will run a post on this, most probably this month.

Hello @SDSanth

You certainly don’t lose points if you update your reviews. Like others have said, you really should gain points.

Nevertheless, what I feel may be the issue is that, there is the probability of the spam filter beem triggered and maybe that review going private. That’s a possibility really.

Now the question is do your points go down when a photo or review goes hidden/private?
@Rahul001 @WilfriedB @Trail_blazer

These are my guesses on the issue.

@Trail_blazer

I have also been avoiding reveiws unfortunately. Just to reduce the risk of too many hidden reviews viz a viz suspension from the program.

According to my experience, just by being hidden, we don’t loose any points for the photos. Only if I delete a photo myself, regardless whether hidden or not, the points are reduced by 5.

However, if I remember correctly, after receiving the mail “Your review wasn’t posted”, because the place was deleted, the points for the review were deducted. But I am not 100% sure about that

If you dont mind me saying so,ever since I crossed into 100k I don’t pay anymore attention to points.

The various contributions are what matters now and maybe quality.

Even though I have less than 100k points, I don’t watch in detail where exactly the increase of my points came from

Hi @SDSanth,

I think by now you must have got the fair idea and indicators to the query you have raised here.

Here is my views on your query:

I usually review the restaurants I visit so I can refer back to them in the future. If I’m going back to a restaurant I visited before, I usually try a new dish and update my review. In recent times, I have noticed that I often lose 10 points when I update the review.

  1. It’s other way round, you get additional 5 Bonus points if you are prompted to edit your review once you revisit the place and post your revised review.[1]

  2. You lose the points, if the already published media attached with review is deleted and/or the published review is shorten below 200 characters.

  3. Even after revising the existing review, if it goes hidden; you won’t lose any point other than what is mentioned above in Point #2.

I suspect it was the 10 points awarded for the detailed review that I lose.

Please refer aboove Point #2.

Hope, it is clear.

  1. As a sincere and responsible LG, it is not advisable to follow this practice just for the bonus points. ↩︎

I just recently hit Level 7 contributor after submitting a new review (woot, go me!).

When looking back at some previous reviews I had done, I found some typos and grammatical errors that needed to be corrected. However, when I edited/updated a couple of them, I lost points and reverted to Level 6 - even after, supposedly, being assigned bonus points for adding more detail - and, yes, every single one was over 200 characters.

Reading through everyone’s responses here, I’m now feeling a bit confused…I guess I’d just like to understand how it’s supposed to work and why you’d discourage someone from making the effort to go back and update a previous review.

I was contemplating adding some photos to places I regularly go, that I have previously reviewed, but now I’m feeling a bit reluctant, given I’ve effectively been punished for being thorough…

In your scenario @EviLEwoK, you could simply add the photos directly to the place rather than to the review. That way, you get 5 points for every photo added, while the review remains intact.

Thx.

Any idea on the other bit though, as to why I’ve had points taken away for updating a previous review?
