Do you like the color-matched backgrounds for photos and videos on Google Maps?

A few days ago, Google Maps introduced an interesting feature: the backgrounds of photos and videos were displayed in a color that matched the tone of the image. This aesthetic change, albeit subtle, added a new dimension to how photos and videos are presented on the platform.

But this feature only lasted a few days. Now, when you look at a photo or video on Google Maps, the background is simply black, both in light and dark theme.

In the header image of this post, which consists of various screenshots of photos and videos I captured during this brief period, you can see how the background colors complement the tones of the images, creating a more pleasing visual experience.

Personally, I liked this feature. I think it adds a touch of style and makes the images and videos stand out more. I also believe it makes the overall browsing experience on Google Maps more appealing.

But what do you think? Did you prefer when the backgrounds of photos and videos were displayed in colors that matched the images? Or do you prefer the current black background?

I’d love to hear your opinion.

Hi @FrancescDomingo

I agree with you. Personally, I also like the color-matched background. It is nice and brings a fresh sense to swiping the photos.

Today that color-matched background is available on my app, too. Indeed it is a new interface for showing images, not only the background but also the way it shows the caption and also the share, like, and location buttons, have been changed and it is much better. I really like it more.
