Diu is the tourist paradise located on the western coast of India in Sourastra belt and the favorite destination for Indian and foreign tourists. Diu is famous for exotic beaches, museums, cuisine, carnival, music festival, & beach party and the only place in Gujarat (Dry State) where liquor is legal.
Diu itself arouses memories of the past when we wonder about the ingenuity of the Portuguese who came all the way to rule a tiny island and succeeded. The fort is a reminder of their indomitable spirit of adventure. Strategically located, it commands a panoramic view of the vast ocean.
Though old, it is strong and reminds us of what our freedom fighters have gone through as there is a prison as well. Almost all visitors, come to see Diu fort, that was constructed by the Portuguese in 1535 A.D. spread in an area of approx 56000 sq feet, covered from sea by three sides, and was one of most important ones in Asia. This is good place to roam around and click photos with sea, Pani Kotha (the old island prison, in the shape of a ship, recommended to see it from the top of the fort.) or lighthouse in the background. No entry fee. It has a considerably large area.
You can spend some time climbing from one wall to another. Lot of walking, So for elder people it might be a problem and not recommend on a hot afternoon.
