Discussion on Local Guides' 2024 Star 360 Spheres

2024 360s Discussion (1).gif

See also the dedicated 2024 discussion threads on Star Photos and Star Videos.

This post is where you raise any questions or wish to comment about any one of the specific star 360 Spheres in the Local Guides’ 2024 Album of Star 360 Spheres or 360 Spheres generally. It’s similar to the discussion posts dedicated to 2024 star photos and star videos but as the name suggests, this post is dedicated to Local Guides’ best achieving 360 spheres. Given that each class of media contribution has its own unique features and issues, the consensus has been for each to have their own album and place for discussion.

The purpose of separating questions and general discussion on star 360 Spheres from the album post itself, is to provide a much better and more enjoyable user experience when viewing each of the star 360 Spheres in the album, especially on mobile devices. Therefore, all content other than the actual 3 star 360 Spheres submitted in accordance with the specific criteria mentioned in Section 3 of the album post, will be moved here. Also, to enhance the reader’s experience when commenting on a specific Local Guide’s star video in the album, please also include the permalink to that star.

Because posts once submitted on Connect cannot be deleted, if you ever believe that a post you’ve added to the Star 360 Spheres Album post needs to be deleted, then rather than adding a lame comment like “this comment has been moved to the discussion post”, let me or one of the Connect Moderators know and it will be moved for you. I’m sure that you’ll agree that we all would much rather see the discussion post and not the album post itself looking a bit messy.

Thank you @AdamGT for creating a separate forum to discuss on 2024 Star 360 Spheres as well.

I will upload my STAR 360 Spehre at ‘Local Guides’ 2024 Album of Star 360 Spheres once done. At present the link is going to ‘Local Guides’ 2024 Album of Star Videos’.

Update:

Now the link is working and have posted my Star 360 Sphere. Thank you!

Yes @PrasadVR . I had already updated my comment above once the link started working and I posted my Star 360 Sphere.

I think you missed to read my above comment fully. :grinning:

Thanks for your comments @Kumaarsantosh and @PrasadVR . Until I had created and added the album on Connect I temporarily had the discussion post linking to the 2024 album. This completes the album and discussion posts so now we’re all ready for the leaderboard posts. There’s certainly a lot to do when we move into a new year. Anyway, we’re all good now and thanks for your patience and understanding.

@AdamGT Big thanks for creating the Top 100 albums for the new year. I can’t grasp how you do it all by yourself. Appreciate your hard work.

Thank you @PrasadVR and @Kumaarsantosh for your appreciation.

As you will know, to make things run smoothly and easily for everyone down the track there are links going backwards and forwards from albums to discussion threads and then ultimately from the leaderboards to the individual Local Guide respective stars in each of the 3 albums so at the formative stage, that is when creating the first set of posts there’s a bit of the chicken before the egg problem that crops up. But it should all sort itself out once we get rolling and back to real business.

We all benefit Santosh, myself included. By sharing we all can learn what and how to contribute and achieve the “best” possible quality in terms of personal achievement and contributions to Maps and hence to our respective communities. This really is what the Leaderboards are about. Together we can do it.

Hi everyone

Finally we now have the 3 different sets of 2024 star album posts and associated discussion post up and running and just looking through them, it’s clear that we’ve come a long way since the first star album post, that being the 2022 Star Photos. Having separate discussion posts has worked really well, although some of us sometimes forget how to make this work mainly because it is totally different to how all other Connect threads work.

The layout/formatting criteria and Lucy has also helped a lot. But still with all that, their are some failings on the part of some and on this, Local Guides including @PrasadVR , @Rednewt74 and @Trail_blazer have kindly jumped in to fill the gap and provide some guidance to those in need. The issues have mainly related to formatting and providing the right links. I have been thinking about this and the question is, is there a better way to do this?

Ideally, if Connect provided an API which stands for Application Programming Interface (something that allows different applications to “seamlessly” talk to each other) we could simply press a button on the Leaderboard System and it would create the star posts for each one of us. Job done! However we don’t have an APS so is there something else can we do? Well I have an idea and I’m working with a few Local Guides interested in testing it out so stay tuned. Together we can make this happen!

Thank you for your appreciation @TheoVlassis . For the reasons mentioned here, I’ve moved your comment to this discussion post. You should consider joining in and showcase your stars be it your most viewed photo, video and/or 360 sphere, we’d all love to see them. You will learn a lot more by participating.

This content has been put onto the Stars discussion forum - please can you delete this post @DeniGu . Next time I will leave it in place and ask one of the Connect Moderators to move it for me.

Cheers,

Nigel

Hi @nigelfreeney ,

We don’t usually delete content that doesn’t violate our community guidelines. It’s OK to edit your comment to say that the content has been moved to a more relevant thread, or keep it as is. Thanks for your understanding!

@nigelfreeney , so as to keep the Star 360 Album post organized, I’ve moved your comment of March 29 here on the 360 stars discussion post.

Hi @AdamGT , where did I go wrong with my entry on the 27/7/24 here

Thanks

Peadar

Hello @Trail_blazer

As you can see I’ve moved your comment from the Star 360 Album post to here on the 360 stars discussion post to keep the album post organized as described here.

Hello @Peadar

As you can see, to keep the album post better organized as described here. I have moved your comment from the Star 360 Album post to here on the 360 stars discussion post.

Now regarding your question:

  1. Which entry are you talking about? Rather than a date, it would help me if you provided the link to your entry.

  2. What do you see as having gone wrong or what makes you think it has gone wrong?

Hello, @Trail_blazer , Congratulations on your Star 360 Sphere contribution. I’ve noticed that the link provided here is directing to the POI instead of your contribution. Please check it in incognito mode to see if it’s an issue. am I missing something?
