Discovering the Natural Beauty of Norther Areas of Pakistan - Dasu, Upper Kohistan, KPK

I am sharing an amazing journey to Dasu town, situated in Upper Kohistan, Pakistan. It is at 6 hours travel from Islamabad. We started our journey from Islamabad via Islamabad Peshawar Motorway, then turned on Hazara Motorway. Hazara Motorway is one of the most beautiful roads in Pakistan. It passes through Haripur, Abbottabad, and Mansehra’s lush green valleys.

It is positioned along the Karakoram Highway, a vital route connecting Pakistan and China through the challenging Karakoram mountain range. Dasu town is almost 75km from Bisham towards Chilas District on Karakurum Highway. Due to the road conditions, it takes around 2 hours to reach Dasu from Bisham. See road from Bisham to Dasu in the video below:

Dasu’s charm lies in its breathtaking natural surroundings, with imposing mountains and the flowing Indus River creating a stunning backdrop.

It serves as a gateway to some of the region’s most picturesque landscapes, including the scenic valleys of Kohistan and the northern areas of Pakistan. Please take a look at the beautiful local road passing through the Dasu Valley:

There are beautiful plants and herbs in Dasu Valley. See below pictures:

Recent years have witnessed developments in the Dasu area, notably the Dasu Hydropower Project. This endeavor seeks to tap into the Indus River’s hydropower potential to generate electricity for the region, addressing Pakistan’s growing energy needs.

The Dasu Hydropower Project, nestled in the Upper Kohistan District of Pakistan, is a colossal undertaking that represents a significant step towards bolstering the country’s energy infrastructure. With a planned installed capacity of approximately 4,320 megawatts, it is poised to become one of Pakistan’s largest hydropower ventures. Designed in multiple phases, Phase 1 alone involves the construction of critical components such as the main dam and powerhouses.

By harnessing the power of the Indus River, this initiative is set to play a pivotal role in meeting Pakistan’s growing energy demands. Furthermore, it aligns with global efforts to reduce reliance on fossil fuels, as hydropower offers a clean and renewable energy source. As the Dasu Hydropower Project advances, it promises to enhance Pakistan’s energy security, stimulate economic growth, and contribute to a more sustainable energy future.

Well presented post, my dear @zubair-rafique

Appreciate…

Your travel diary is interesting to read…

Of course, I liked your style of story telling - very good.

I saw all the three videos - well shot.

To be frank, the videos are scary.

Is the water in the Indus River has this colour always?

Jalkot Stream shot also is very classic.

Best wishes, dear…

Thanks @TravellerG .

Color of the indus water varies. In summer when the slow melts, it becomes light brown or mud color. However in winter it becomes greenish blue.

Of course, the Krakorum Highway (KKH) is one of the dangerous roads of the world and is at highest sea level road. So it must be scary. @TravellerG
