Discovering the Hidden Beauties of Hilsea Lines on an afternoon walk

Hidden among a former fortification site overgrown with trees, a peaceful creek guards the entrance to Portsmouth. During the 19th century, this was once a bustling fortress lit up at night with soldiers patrolling the impenetrable and formidable bastion. Looking at its remaining vestiges, you could hear the conversations of the guards on duty at night. The dense overgrowth of trees appears to be healing spirits marking a transition towards peace and reconciliation as we hope that the days of war would become a memory of the distant past. Walking through Hilsea Lines feels like journeying through the past, with echoes of the fortress’s history reverberating through the overgrown foliage.
