When travel alone, I always like to find unpopular place to visit. I rarely go to Taichung, one of biggest cities in Taiwan, this time I decided to visit a heritage house built by one of the richest families in Taiwan. The house named Picking Star Villa (摘星山莊）, it has a romantic name even nowadays. The villa was built in 1871 and finished by 1879 and designed in a traditional southern-Chinese siheyuan. All the constructive materials ware imported from Hok-kian. It is hard to imagine how hard to build this villa in those times. The villa has delicately decorated, all the wood windows with flower sculptures, all in-front walls with stories sculptures. The whole house is an art display. And thanks to Taichung government could keep this beautiful place for people. Hope you have chance to see it.
