Who doesn’t love the Chaat varieties!
Although a South Indian, I am glad to have got that foodie in me, who loves to explore different cuisines, and the Dahi Puri is one among them.
There is a story on how I discovered this super satisfactory dish. During my school days, my hostel was inside a college campus, which had almost 4-5 canteens. The college had a good number of students from different parts of India and even abroad, thus a variety of dishes served. It was very rare that we school students were allowed to go and visit the college canteens, yet one day we finally got to go.
So, it was then my North Indian friend suggested me this dish. I have always loved everything with curd, yogurt, and that whole category, which made this my favorite. It had this cooled Dahi, filled inside the Puri which is used for making these Chaat varieties, with the typical Chaat flavors filled inside. It was super satisfactory and I craved for it since then.
The next time my parents visited the campus, I took them there and ate it again. School days were over and I had to bid goodbye to this yummy Dahi Puri at the canteen. I hunted for Dahi Puri during my college days and could have it around 2-3 times at an authentic place at Kochi- Bikash Babu Sweets. But my cravings could not stop. There came the lockdown where every Indian house experimented with recipes, among which Dahi Puri experimented at my home. Ahhh…yes, finally I could taste it again, and can now have it anytime!
So that’s my story of replacing Pani Puri with Dahi Puri, from the Chaat Family!
I am sure that I am not the only one who craves Chaat every now and then, do sare your experiences and your favorite place to have them!
