Despite of the fact that I had been in Granada a number of times, it wasn’t until I moved here when I started to discover all the amazing, crowdly, cozy and lovely places that this city has.
Granada is well know for the Alhambra, probably the most famous arab palace built by the muslims in the mid-13th century and today, the most visited monument in Spain.
But Granada is also one of the most genuine cities of the country: the unmistakable view of the snow-capped peaks of Sierra Nevada as a backdrop to the city, the permantent living atmosphere starred by the 60000 students (a quarter of the inhabitants) that its famous university welcomes and of course, the culture of the “tapa”, hallmark of this city.
In this city, you can jump from bar to bar just spending a few coins and going back home completely sated: you order a drink (around 2 - 2.5€) and they will you a “tapa” for free. The size and the quality depend on the bar but trust me, you don’t need more of 2/3 tapas to consider your meal as finished
Most of the places serve delicious typical Spanish food (what else?) but if you look thorughfully (or ask a Local Guide), you can find exotic and original places in which the tapas are unusual ones.
During my first months in the city, I didn’t know anyone and I needed to start a new life and creating my social circles in Granada, and the life in Spain (especially in the lovely Andalucia) is done mostly in bars. For all of these reasons, I decided to create a map to add all these famous, unknwon, extraordinary and typical places in which eat delicious food, taste huge tapas, devour the best pizzas or chill out with a drink in my hand. At the beginning, the local people showed me these places but after several months of going out with different groups and exploring by myself, I had a list so complete that they are now who ask me for places to go. Isn’t amazing?
If you live or visit Granada, I hope this map will help you to enjoy the “food life” in one of the most special cities I know. Please, feel free to write me to join you and tell you more, I will be glad to do it.
