Berkeley, CA, USA

Updated informations are in Bold

Hi Local Guides,

@AlejandraMaria and myself will be in California mid-November for Connect Live 19 and we have planned to discover Berkeley (the symbol of the flower power back in the sixties) on Sunday the 10th Nov 19.

The meeting point will be at Powell Street station (main entrance) between 8h30 - 8h35 at the latest in order to take the BART to go to Downtown Berkeley Station. Cost:5$ (one way). We have an appointment at 10AM at Koret Visitor Center for the visit of the UNI guided by a student.

At Berkeley, we will reach the University of California, Berkeley Campusa (15min walk) to visit the campus for 1h30. It is free.

We will also visit the Campanile, the 3rd tallest bell and clock-tower in the world. It is supposed to be one of the best view of the Bay Area from the observation platefrom …when the weather is nice! Unfortunatly, it is not wheelchair accessible. Cost:4$

If we still have free time before lunch, we will walk to the telegraph avenue and visit Moe’s books one of world-renowned bookstore for book lovers.

For lunch, we will taste Eureka restaurant which is supposed to be a perfect place to satisfy burgers and craft beers lovers. Price : 14$ for an American Burger. We need confirmation for booking.

After lunch, we will walk (1 hour) to the Tilden Little Farm in order to discover the amazing variety of plants and animals of the Tilden Park.

To finish with, we will take an UBER (3$/pers) to end up at the Urbano cellars for a wine testing Price 10$ tasting fee for the full comprehensive taste. We need confirmation for booking.

The estimated cost for the day is around : 50$/person (Transport 13$, Visit 5$, Food 20$, Wine testing 10$)

Does it sound interesting? Would you like to join us ? We will have a great time all together taking pictures, updating business listings, writing reviews and sharing tips.

Alenjandra and Jul

Hi @Julien44 !

We will have a great time “Discovering Berkely” . This meet-up is full of activities for all day long: we will visit the campus, walk, eat, taste wines…

Nothing like a meet-up for making contributions to Google Maps, exploring and socializate with other LGs

I really like the plan :clap::clap:.

Looking forward to November 10!!!

Good Evening from the South of Spain,

Alejandra.

This will be great @Julien44 @AlejandraMaria I used to live in Berkeley

A few suggestions (both of which are reachable by AC Transit bus)

Indian Rock https://goo.gl/maps/aN9T8q5d1h7ViLNm7 - you can see the whole Bay Area from up here

Tilden Park https://goo.gl/maps/3g24yHemosEk8mV68 - an amazing park with a ride on miniature railway (actually its pretty big) Redwood Valley Railroad https://g.page/TildenSteamTrain?share

One walking tip for you - Berkeley is probably the steepest settled area in the Bay Area - it may take you much longer to walk up to Grizzly Peak Road than you think. It is very steep. I strongly recommend you catch the 67 AC Transit Bus https://sfbaytransit.org/actransit/route/67

Wuauuu @PaulPavlinovich , many many thanks for your suggestions :clap::clap::clap:

We have thouhgt about Tilden Park, but now we know that there is a railway ( you are a Railway Lover) and how to get there.

Great views from the Indian Rock!!!

Thank you very much for the walking tip. You have lived in Berkeley so you know much better than us about its distancies.

Good Afternoon from the South of Spain,

Alejandra.

Wow! @Julien44 @AlejandraMaria That’s a very well thought through itinerary! Sounds like a super adventure and I hope you’ll get great weather to go along with it! I’m hoping to eat my way around SF on Sunday (too many cafes that I want to go to and not enough time to get to them all!)

Hi @ArchitOjha

It is great if you can join us on this super tour!

As this meet up will last all day, I will share my position on google maps in case some people can only join for few hours.

I am happy to see you again.

Hey @Julien44 @AlejandraMaria - Cal is my old stomping grounds. I graduated here.

If you want a Cal experience, here are my Top Picks besides the Campanile (which is definitely a must - you have to ride the elevator up to the top. The hours are limited):

As for college life, Bancroft Way and Telegraph Avenue are where you will see both undergraduate and graduate students milling around. The stores, businesses, restaurants, and cafes in this T section is campus life.

Besides Moe’s Books, these are the classics:

These are newer but very popular:

Cheers,

Karen
