The karamojong are nomadic pastoralists, who move from one area to another looking for pasture. The Karamojong are tall, and medium sized in structure, but quite aggressive. They are friendly, and very entertaining with a number of activities which include; cultural dance, drama, making handicrafts, and paintings.
Karamoja has a semi arid climate with hot temperatures reaching 30-33 degrees Celsius, and 2 rainy seasons in a year. On your visit to this traditional land, you will get a chance to meet the Karamojong warriors who reside in the mountains, known for defending the land. They are so simple and carry with them spears as a sign of zeal to fight the ‘‘the enemy’’. Besides that, a visit to Karamajo will avail you an amazing opportunity to taste and enjoy some awesome African food like; sorghum, millet, posho, beans, among others. The locals here are good at brewing to facilitate social gatherings .
Karamoja is a home to one of Uganda’s best national parks called Kidepo. Kidepo is well endowed with a variety of wildlife of over 77 animal species. The most popular animals include; lions, elephants, giraffes, leopards, zebras, spotted hyena, mountain reed buck, and lesser kudu. The environment is ideal for bird watching, hiking , and nature walk in the park.
