Welcome to the Limbe Wildlife Center (Zoo) at the heart of the coastal city of Limbe in the South West Region of Cameroon. This is more of a wildlife rescue service than a zoo because a good number of the species were confiscated from illegal poachers. Ranging from the almost extinct Pandrillus Pandrillus monkey to the endangered Cross River Gorillas.
Poaching is a major ill in this part of the world where animals are illegally hunted both for food and also for medicinal purposes. So 90% person of the gorillas arrived wildlife service center through confiscation, after which they are tagged and given names.
Besides the critically endangered species some other primates at the zoo under the rescue program include:Of course, a ‘zoo’ with only primates can turn to be boring for most visitors reason why the center added a few more species to diversify. It’s interesting to know that these particular species of among which includes a Nile Crocodile, Python Boa etc… are at least 12 years old given that they’re the same I saw when I last visited as a little boy.
Overall it’s a great experience to be in touch with these wild animals and just enjoy them in their natural glory. Of there come a time when the torch of that glory goes off - permanently, sad but a part of life for all living beings. Finally it’s a great place to stop by whenever you find yourself in the coastal city of Limbe, South West Region Cameroon.Let me know which wild animal you’ll love to see most in the comments below - Thanks!
