At Connect Live just a couple months ago, we announced that as part of a limited pilot, people in nine cities would be able to follow the Google Maps profiles of select Local Guides to receive recommendations on places and experiences nearby.
Today, we’re excited to share that we are expanding the pilot and will soon be inviting thousands more Local Guides from 23 new cities to participate.
It was exciting to see many of the Local Guides we invited in our initial pilot rollout to nine cities opt-in and participate. Equally as exciting was the interest we saw from so many more Local Guides who asked to have their cities included in the pilot program.
Based on that feedback and to better understand how Local Guides and others on Google Maps are using the pilot feature in more cities around the world, we’re adding the following cities to the pilot:
- Atlanta - Bangalore - Barcelona - Buenos Aires - Chicago - Dallas - Delhi - Grand Rapids
- Houston - Istanbul - Jakarta - Los Angeles - Madrid - Miami - Milan - Paris
- Philadelphia - San Jose - Surabaya - Taipei - Toronto - Warsaw - Washington DC
When selecting Local Guides to participate, we look for things like how often they share recommendations, and quality and frequency of their contributions on Maps. If you’re not selected to participate but live in one of these cities, keep an eye on the “For You” tab for great local finds from a fellow community member!
