A few weeks ago i went to Cambodia for attending an event of commemoration on Mine Awareness and Victim Assistance 2019. These two-days event has gained me new insights and lessons while visiting some villages there. One of the most self-waken experiences was when i visited Bantey Prieb. It is a training center and a home for young people with disabilities, caused by landmines, polio and accident. There were so many interesting stories be told at the place. Bantey Prieb helps and gives them opportunity to draw strength to one another, gain new hopes and live like other people which received education, makes friends and get a job.
Cambodia is one of the countries that are most-affected by the landmines, this case caused many people get injured and disabled from a very young age, as they don’t recognize the landmines. They often mistaken a toy to landmines. This journey has opened my mind how every country has their own history and peculiar problem that they face nowadays. It makes me aware of mines and ERW, instead of grateful of life i live in rightnow where my country doesn’t have this kind of problem. In responding to this problem, i think it matters how i as youth needs to share this experience as to commemorate the International Mine Awareness day on April 4, reminding the importance of Mine and ERW risk education for people how this explosive device devastating people.
