Disabled parking facilities in my community

From the past many years, I have been reviewing places in my community and in almost all my reviews I emphasize on whether these reviewed places offers reserved parking space for disabled drivers and if it has access for them. The following are my findings after noticing this many places:

  1. In almost all places, placards are placed with a figurative mark illustrating the parking space reserved for disabled drivers.

  2. The local government authority, issues a car sticker for disabled drivers which authorizes them to park their cars in the reserved spots.

  3. There is a fine for unauthorized drivers with no disability stickers occupying the reserved parking slots. In most of the cases, the traffic police have the right to towed the car and take legal action against the violators.

  4. I saw only few parking spaces reserved in big parking lots of malls, parks, beaches. For example, in an exhibition building which has a big parking lot with a parking capacity of approximately 500 cars I saw only 3 spots reserved for the disabled drivers, that too located very far from the building access.

Iam planning to compile a list of the reserved parking spaces in my community which shall be shared with the concerned traffic department. I will request the department to create an information flyer with all the disabled parking locations and share them with the disabled drivers through electronic media and printed copies. Additionally, I will request the concerned traffic department to increase the number of reserved spots for the disabled drivers and locate them within close proximity to the access of the buildings.

Hi @fasi6083 !

It´s great what you are doing monitoring the parkings facilities :wheelchair: and trying to improve them in your community.

I am very focus on accessibility when I make my contributions on Google Maps. This guide was very helpful to me "How to Answer Wheelchair Accessibility Questions" and every way I go and try to make a photo or mention the accessibility in the reviews.

Many many thanks for yourprayers @fasi6083 , yes the situation in Spain is very difficult. We are in alarm.

We have been isolated for 2 weeks and now we have 2 more ahead. I hope that after this month at home we will see some changes and the contagion curve will go down.

Luckily my family and I are in good state of health right now.

Stay safe, the virus is spreading for all the planet.

Alejandra.
