I am so proud and thankful that Google Local Guides is featuring me for Disability Awareness Month for my accessibility contributions to Google Maps! I hope that this encourages more Local Guides to not only include include accessibility information in all their reviews, but detailed information. Also, I hope that senior citizens see my profile and decide to become Google Local Guides!
Google sent out a photographer to my little town last week. We ended up walking, just like I do, all over the Lakefront and down the historic streets. She took A LOT of photos! I showed her many of the places I have taken photos of and reviewed for accessibility, as well as those with QR Codes! I even got to introduce her to some of the members of the Old Mandeville Historic Association that I have discussed accessibility with!
It was a great experience for me, but most of all I hope that it helps someone out there. I hope that the feature in some way touches a life. By raising awareness, which is not an empty phrase. To me it means sparking something in someone to help another that may have a special need. I hope that someone may get encouragement or purpose to join a movement they may have thought they were past the time in life to do. I hope that it is meaningful. #lets guide.
