Google maps has revolutionized the way we navigate. There was a time when physical maps was a priority. Even today their significance has not decreased alot. Combining with words of mouth, they are still a very powerful way of reaching places around the world.
But what gives google maps an edge is the authenticity of information that is added and verified by millions of local guides everyday. Sharing my knowledge on google maps with this mindset is really a boost in providing the best i can to the community.
I am a resident of mohali, punjab and despite a significant improvement in maps in our Chandigarh area overtime, there has been flaws that has caused me problems in navigations in the past and even till now. These are minor issues although, and i have tried my best to correct them on my level. But it seems this will need a lot more knowledge than i currently have of my local geography.
Besides, the situation in the countryside of punjab is even worse. The place of my in laws i e. Nabha has more errors on map than any other city. As a businessman myself, i feel that such errors cause greater loss to local businesses everyday due to intense competition from online businesses.
It feels great that i contributed as much as possible in my endeavour to improve the navigation and business positioning in my area as much as possible.
As a google student ambassador(2012)in my college and also an attendant at google adcamp 2013, i have realised that students as well as businesses are nowadays dependent on the maps technology and can make decisions mostly inferred by the data provided by google maps and search.
It, therefore, becomes inevitable that we, as local guides, do our best in improving the maps ecosystem in a manner beneficial for the community as a whole.
