I have noticed this for a long time and thought I would bring it for clarity or discussion. When looking at photo counts and views on Main profile vs incognito or a friend viewing you will see a difference in the total photos posted (public), however the view count is always the same. This does not make sense. If someone sees 100 less photos, then the view count should be lower. Going to share two photos for visual. First photo is of my profile, 2nd photo of incognito or a friend viewing. Discuss. Thx.

Hi @StevenBerlin, that is a great observation and a very common source of confusion!
@Annaelisa is completely right that the views are displaying correctly in both cases. The reason this happens is because Google Maps counts historical lifetime views.
Once a photo accumulates views while it is public, those views are permanently added to your account’s total view count. If the AI filter later hides the photo (which lowers your public photo count in incognito mode by 100, as you noticed), Google does not subtract the historical views that those hidden photos already generated in the past.
Therefore, your total view count remains exactly the same (2.7 Billion) in both views, even though the number of currently visible photos changes. The views don’t disappear just because the photo gets hidden. Hope this clarifies the logic behind it!

IMHO this is wrong @Ayaanali and @StevenBerlin. If the SPAM-filter hides a photo which already did have views, the total number of views is reduced for the public, as well as for yourself. Therefore, both totals are identical. If you look at the photo under My Contributions, you don’t see any views anymore neither.
If you are lucky and your photo is re-instated (e.g. after an appeal) the views increase again. I did have such a case in the past.
The above situation is different from the case, when a listing was deleted. Your photo is linked to “Unknown Place” and still shows views under My Contributions. These photos are still public, but other users can only see them by watching your contributions or if you share a link.

I really appreciate the detailed explanation. It makes complete sense that the spam filter would entirely remove the views from both totals, and it is great to know that those views actually return if a photo is successfully reinstated after an appeal.
The distinction you made between spam-filtered photos and the “Unknown Place” deleted listings is also very helpful and clears up a lot of confusion. We are always learning something new in this community.
