Difference on the Level of my Google Maps/Local Guide profile

Hello, Local Guides team.

I’m not sure if the problem can/should be discussed here, so if it’s not, I’m sorry and I would like to request guidance of when to report.

The issue: my Google Maps/Local Guide profile when I am on Google Maps(on browser or mobile) is showing me as Level 6, but I already upgraded to Level 7 for quite some time already. So, I’m not understanding the inconsistency.

Only in Google Maps is showing the wrong level, because on everything else(here in Local Guides forum, in the notification emails from Google Maps, etc).

It is something normal in current system. There might be some delay between real points and what we see on Google Maps so it also may affect level showing at milestone days. Even in such days it might take more time for syncing points but finally you’ll be able to see new badge in your Google Maps profile. So don’t worry and keep good contributing :blush:

@HenriqueOrsi No need to worry about this . Google servers take some time to update your levels and badges to your profile in maps . But for sure it will be updated you can continue to contribute to maps and make it great :slight_smile:

@HenriqueOrsi Some updates usually takes time to appear on our google map profile, once u have reach a certain level or earn a new badge you will get a comfirmation email and the update will follow and reflect on your profile.

@HenriqueOrsi Can you try to log out of Connect and log back in?

Hello, @HenriqueOrsi I also found the same issue. Yesterday morning my points showed me as 7599 and in the evening it showed me as 7571. And still showing the same. I had to faced to a server problem and after reinstalling the application now it’s working again perfectly and much faster than before. I think the points matter will fix soon. Normally it takes sometime to update.

Lots of people have given you good answers here @HenriqueOrsi

Maps is a large distributed system and the data is synchronised from data store to data store around the world. Sometimes these synchronisation can take a while. You might connect to a different set of services because of geography, phone provider or even congestion at random. The servers don’t necessarily have the most up to date data. Wait a little while and they will.

I would like to address the considerations you did and add a few points:

  • I understand about the distributed system used by Google Maps/Local Guides and the possibility of delays until it’s synchronized. I’m familiar with that;

  • The confirmation I moved to Level 7 happened sometime in the past, which means the fact it’s showing Level 6 is recent. Until a few days ago, when I was adding my reviews on Google Maps and posting/commenting here in Local Guides forum, both profiles were showing Level 7 properly and synchronized;

  • I did try to logoff from Google Maps on mobile and browser and also uninstall/reinstall the app(Google Maps). Nothing changed;

  • Lastly, I checked the link provided by @StephenAbraham and it explains the issue (already fixed in 2018 according to the post) was when “…the Connect level is the lower number and has not updated to match Google Maps” and my case is exactly the opposite: on Local Guides it shows the higher level(7) and on Google Maps it went down to 6.

Would you recommend anything else?

That’s cool! Good to know. Me, still lvl6 on Google Maps and lvl7 here(Local Guides).
I wait some more and also @PaulPavlinovich is going to check my Contributions. Let’s see.

Hi @Ivi_Ge . Yes, now it’s level 7. But that because I’ve made contributions to Google Maps this weekend to reach the 5000 points. It wasn’t a “just wait for the sync issue to get fixed by itself” solution. I needed to re-do the work. Well, I’m not sure what happened and I’m not sure if you can consult what happened. @PaulPavlinovich mentioned that I could have lost some points due to some rules changes recently, but I didn’t receive any email about this communication neither found anything here in the forum.
