Difference between "Number of contribution" stats and Badge Level requirements stats

Hi to all of you,

I’m new in both Google Maps Local Guides and Local Guides Connect, and I have a big doubt. I want to know about the difference between the number of contribution stats and the badge level requirements stats.

For example: In my case, in the Fact Finder badge, I have 6/25 suggested edits approved (At the time I’m writing this message). On the other hand, in my “Number of contributions” section, it says I have 42 edits.

The same happens with the Reviewer Badge “Get 5 likes on your reviews” item, I have more than 5 likes but it doesn’t seem to update. Also in the Trailblazer Badge, specifically with “Add the first photo of ten places” item, this items seems to be frozen too.

I’ve read in posts here that it can take up to two weeks to Google to update and sync those stats, it doesn’t make any sense that these simple synchronization takes so much time. But I just want to confirm that I haven’t lost part of my time contributing to Google Maps.

I’d like to know what I have to do in order to fix this sync issue.

You both asked about the numbers not adding up between the detailed badge statistics and our general contribution statistics.

This is not an issue I have given much attention to, but let me share these possible explanations:

  1. There is often a delay before the badge stats get updated.

  2. It is a known fact that the numbers of edits are counted differently. So the general stats show a larger number. Badge edits do not count adding captions to restaurant dishes and if a place gets merged or closed permanently you might lose those edit credits as mentioned by @C_T here. I have not been able to confirm this and I believe there might be more factors needed to explain the differences many Local Guides see.

  3. Reviews are also counted differently. For the badge figure, they need to be 200+ characters.

  4. The total count of likes on our list of review contributions is known to be always wrong. Normally the total shown is way less than if you try to sum the likes added to individual reviews manually.

I did the following systematic check of your stats, @FranBL :

Pioneer badge

Pics 7 (this stat is not available elsewhere)

Reviews 15 vs 46 on your general stats. Difference = first or not the first review at places.

Additions 25 vs 25 = No difference.

Reviewer badge

Reach 46. This is not available in the general stats. But we sometimes can see this stat in the monthly emails.

Long reviews: 24 vs 46. This is due to only counting the 200+ character reviews.

Likes: 3 vs fraudulent number. As mentioned the review likes total is very much off.

Factfinder badge

Edits: 6 vs. 42. Maybe the word “approved” can explain some of the difference.

Checked facts: 63 vs 63 = No difference.

Answers: 1269 vs 1269 = No difference.

Photographer badge

Number: 58 vs 58 = No difference.

Reach: 33. This number is not on the general stat page. But it often gets mentioned in the monthly status emails from Google Maps.

Views: 4219 vs 4344. This can easily be explained by the general delay in updating the badge stats. Or by the fact that video views are also counted in the number shown at the top of your photo contribution list.

Video badge

Number: 6 vs 6 = No difference.

Reach: 4. This number is not available in the general stats, but with so few videos you could count them manually to check.

Views: 99. This figure is “hidden” within the photo+video views. So it can not easily be checked.

I how this helps you. And honestly, please don’t get hung up on the missing accuracy/consistency of these stats. I think improvements have been suggested several times in the Idea Exchange. So far to no avail.

I just want to let you know that I’ve merged your two posts since they are identical, this in order to keep Connect well organized.

About your question I see @MortenCopenhagen has provided already a detailed answer, and overall as Morten explained, those data are taking time also to sync and update across all the figures. However we are Local Guides and we do this mainly for passion, although points levels and badges is a nice to have thing. So don’t feel you are loosing your time, stats will sync and update, but we are helping others with our overall contributions.

Hi Morten, Thank you for the time invested in your reply, I really appreciate it.

Today my account in Google Maps seems to be Updated, I got simultaneously the Expert Fact Finder Badge, the Expert Trailblazer Badge and The Expert Reviewer Badge.

Also, the number of contribution stats were updated. There is a significant delay in the synchronization process but I just had to wait less than two weeks for the issue to be solved by itself.

For future reference, if anyone have a similar issue where there is a difference between “Number of contribution” stats and Badge Level requirements stats:

  1. The advice to just wait a couple of weeks is adequate and, probably, enough.
  2. There is a delay in the stats synchronization process that can take more than a week.
