This first Meet-up organised by myself was very challenging. Des Photos à Foto aimed at gathering local guides on Dschang in a wonderful walk from the Museum of Civilization to the other end of the “Lac Municipal de Dschang”. The program went as follows:
- Presentation
At 9a.m. we were already set and ready to start. I will mention here that, since none of the local guides in Dschang get interested in the activity, I rather had new people interested in the project of Google Local guides. Each of them freely received one of the printed local guides gadget.
2- google local guides program (overview and review writing)
The new members had a 1-hour training on the Google local guides program.
I gave them a brief idea of the program, insisting on the volunteering and funny side of it, I presented the advantages of being a Local guide, I taught them how to write a good review and shared with them some techniques (that I don’t yet master) of taking pictures. After having answered all the questions, we started our walkNote: one part of the training have been done the previous day
3-Walk along side of the lake
We were standing on hills to get panoramic pictures, or going closer to point out details.
we discovered many activities that young and adult could practise along the lake in Foto. We met people with canoe, others were swimming, some were taking fresh air in a family athmosphere and in a green environment and we met this wonderful child breaking palmnuts.4- the end
We went and came back in the Museum of Civilisation where we visited the Museum Shop with wonderful articles.
5- Difficulties encountered
I had many difficulties since it is my first experience and maybe the first Meet-up in Dschang, I suprisingly did not have old Connect members from Dschang to participate. Secondly we realised that the map really consumes megabytes and battery. So we rapidly saw our batteries low.
6- Solutions
The first one is: Google can assist local guides communicate on their Meet-up maybe by sending mails or notifications to nearby local guides informing them about a coming meet-up organized in their geographic area.
If you have not yet organized a Meet-up, make sure that you have power bank with you.
I was very happy because the new local guides were excited to continue the adventure. They were able to navigate on the map and write great comments on business such as this one of the nautical base written by TOMBE Wilfrid.
Thanks for reading and sharing your remarks, advice and experience.
