Dera canyon

Dera canyon

The Dera canyon can be found on the way from Pomáz in the direction of Pilisszentkereszt-Dobogókő.

If we visit it there is a built-in resting place, a bigger field and a camp fireplace where we can do bacon baking. It’s also called “our Switzerland.”

The word “dera’ means ravine as well. This name was given by the serbians who lived in Pomáz. Its name is appropriate: the creek in the Dera canyon’s valley created a 1-1,5 kilometres deep and steep glen.

The creek of Dera goes under Szentendre and it ends in the Danube.

The tourists can go thorough many romantic tiny wood bridges over the creek and if they get tired they can rest in comfortable places.

This place is incredibly picturesque so we can forget easily it’s almost an 6 kilometres long way with 200 metres height difference.

Following the blue signs we are accompanied to Pilisszentkereszt.

The very steep east-west directional valley stays sweetly cool in the hottest days in summer.

The permanently shaded place with resorts is ideal for walking and hiking.

To sum it up this is one of my favourite places to have some recreation.
