The East Java, Indonesia, is famous for its shrimp paste, so it’s not surprising that many sell food with basic ingredients from shrimp paste in that region, including Rujak Cingur. In Malang City itself, there is a salad restaurant that has been established for decades.
It’s called Depot Rujak Pojok. It is not difficult to find this restaurant because it is strategically located on the main road, near by train station of Malang Kota Baru. Exactly in Pajajaran Street No 25B, Malang City, Indonesia.
The special menu of this restaurant is Rujak Cingur. This Indonesian traditional food is known as legendary culinary in Malang City because it was established since 1958 and the taste until now never change even the owner has changed. People came to taste this extraordinary salad. Rujak Cingur consists of boiled cow’s mouth, boiled vegetables, sliced cucumber, fried tofu and fried tempe (fermented soy product). Because Indonesians eat cooked rice as a staple food, so when they eat Rujak Cingur, they eat Lontong, compressed rice with banana leaf and boiled it. The most important, all of them is mixed with sauce from fried peanut, shrimp paste, onion, sugar, sliced young green banana, and chili. Usually, when Indonesians love to eat spicy, they request adding more chillis on the sauce, about five chillis.
Another uniqueness of this restaurant is the old-fashioned furniture since 1960’s, like tables and chairs. They never change the furniture just to preserve its antiquity and it’s long-lasting.
