A few weeks ago, I traveled to Delphi together with my wife. The place had enthusiastic reviews from Local Guides, so it was a no-brainer for us to give it a try!
For those that haven’t heard about this place before, here’s a few words:
Delphi is an ancient location found in upper central Greece, on multiple plateau along the slope of Mount Parnassus, and includes the Sanctuary of Apollo (the god of light, knowledge and harmony), the site of the ancient Oracle. According to myths, Zeus determined the site of Delphi when he sought to find the center of his “Grandmother Earth”. He sent two eagles flying from the eastern and western extremities, and the path of the eagles crossed over Delphi where the omphalos, or navel of Gaia was found.
We spent hours visiting the ancient uncovered artifacts and felt really deep-dived into another era. We walked all over the location, until our feet reached their limit… and our stomachs are well! Hunger had kicked in aggressively, so with the first quick search via Local Guides we found a great restaurant nearby with local delicacies, called “To Patriko Mas”. We had some great wine there, sited in comfortable chairs.
After a magnificent day, full of experiences we took the root back to our home leaving behind a wonderful sunset which was passing through the Prometheus Bound statue, standing still at the entrance of Delphi village safeguarding all this wealth for the next visitor!
