Delhi Metro Station #MonthlyTopic Mar2021 Accessibility Examples

This post is in response to the monthly challenge by @HiroyukiTakisawa for March 2021 - Examples of accessibility in your region :wheelchair: .

This Delhi metro compartment and the platform have 8 accessibility features in a single frame as below:

  1. Seat reserved for disabled/differently-abled

  2. Coach floor and platform are at the same level to ease the entry of a wheelchair and also for the visually-impaired.

  3. Handlebars on both sides of the entrance to help the differently-abled.

  4. Special tiles forming a path for the blind to trace the path using a white-cane.

  5. An accessible bench for the differently-abled on the platform,

  6. A Speaker system that narrates the station name, door closing/opening, and various other announcements for the differently-abled.

  7. A multi-colored glowing-LED board that visually shows which station is arriving and names of stations covered in the journey and the upcoming stations.

  8. A multi-color sticker on the floor that shows where to stand so as to maintain social distancing in the metro compartment.

Here’s the view from outside the metro compartment:

There are another 12-15 accessibility features in the Delhi Metro Station premises covered in detail in my metro accessibility meetups:

  1. MG Road Metro Station
  2. Patel Chowk Metro Station

Besides these, there are hundreds of other accessibility features in Delhi that are listed in detail on this page:

Hello, @TusharSuradkar Thank you for sharing and joining #monthlytopic!

We often overlook the accessibility features of various facilities we use day by day, but recent facilities really have a variety of accessibility features and signs. I would like to pay attention to them and reflect them in my own reviews. Thanks!
