Delhi Metro: A boon for female commuters

I visit Delhi off and on for my official purposes, right from the beginning of the last decade. I am from another state, who was initially in Delhi for almost a year in the year 2000. There after I left the “matwari delli” for a different city in the different corner of the country. But in my last few trips, I realised what a relief it had been to travel in Delhi, across the city, for a female even at odd hours which earlier I would have dreaded for sure.

With the introduction of Metro Rail in Delhi, the different corners of the city have been knitted into a smooth network. The platforms are well maintained, directions given explicitly to help a stranger to the city, to perform his or her journey at ease. Best part being the maintenance of discipline specially for the female compartment. Hats off to all its employees and well wishers.

I still remember, back in 2000 winter, I boarded a wrong bus on my way back home from workplace, due to winter fog and landed at Badarpur, Haryana border late evening!!! I still remember the trauma of insecurity that lurched in me as I recce my route back home that night.
