Did you know Souffle pancake? Currently it has become explosive popularity that it can be said as a synonym for Japanese women’s dessert👩. It is a pancake baked so soft like a French cuisine souffle🥞.
The shop in Osaka Abeno, where there are many foreign tourists, is a strange store where pancakes are served on the table as they are in a frying pan:fried_egg:.
The shop in Osaka Namba waits an hour! Besides, it takes about 30 minutes to make a pancake. Imagine, dense and rich cheese melts in your mouth like a bubble? So we can not wait:drooling_face:!!
Souffle pancake shops compete violently in Osaka and Tokyo as if they were ramen shops. However, recently, there seems to be some shop in Sendai, a rural city. Souffle pancake is already said to be Japanese food:dango:.
The Japanese are very sensitive to chewing. They may criticize severely if they do not like the hardness🤨. Therefore, it tends to like the texture “melts in the mouth” very much😍.
They look really, really delicious. So soft, and the sugar on top makes it even better. Your photos are great as usual, too. Thank you for sharing!
I do find it a bit odd that it’s mostly popular for women, I don’t think that there are desserts here that are more popular with a gender. Why do you think is so popular with Japanese women and not as much with men? Is the dish viewed as very feminine, maybe?
Here in Argentina we are used to bigger and thinner pancakes, usually bent and stuffed with sweet ingredients like Dulce de Leche, something similar to caramel, or chocolate. The filling can also be mixed with fruits, like bananas or strawberries. Our pancakes can be eaten as the main dish too, with salty ingredients instead of sweet, like tomato, cream cheese, and more.
With that chocolate sauce, I may be able to live for years:yum:. I’d like to have a pancake containing salty someday.
I have to speak a little politely to answer your doubts. In Japan, there was gender discrimination for a long time. Men and women had history of doing different activities. Currently, in order to aim for genderlessness, there is a movement to improve the status of women, commercial and industries such as pancakes are trying to create a special culture to make women actively participate in society. But for me it does not matter. As you saw, I entered the store alone and wrote a review😁. I like delicate services targeting women in Japan😉
You may be surprised, it was not possible to enter a ramen shop by a single woman several years ago:ramen:! It is not forbidden, it is caused by the delicate spirituality of the Japanese people. We are repeating trial and error for gender less:handshake:
The fluffy souffle pancakes looks more than delicious. I don’t know why but I’ve never tried them while I was in Japan. However I’ve searched the recipe and I will try to cook them myself!
Thank you for this post! As always it is amazing, very descriptive with perfect photos!
